At the end of January, Hudson Solar began installing 76 solar panels on Hawthorne Valley School’s Practical Arts Building and the adjacent pavilion. These panels, made by SunPower, will capture 24,853 kW of power.
“That is the equivalent of the amount of electricity needed for four average houses per year,” said project manager Jesse Cutia of Hudson Solar. “The panels will generate enough power to cover the needs of the Practical Arts Building, plus some which will be used to offset the energy needs of other Hawthorne Valley buildings.”
The installation was completed the first week of February and makes the Practical Arts building the first net zero energy building on Hawthorne Valley’s campus in line with the goals and vision set forth in Hawthorne Valley’s 2012 Master Plan.
