Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School (HVS) is pleased to announce expanded programming and new faculty for the 2019-20 academic year.
Due to increased demand, HVS has added a second nursery school group for ages 3-4 to its Early Childhood Program. Soheireh Meier and Corinna Komenda, both experienced teachers, will lead this group in the newly renovated Early Childhood Center that will also house HVS’s Parent-Child classes for ages birth to 3.
Rachel Loshak, who brings experience in Waldorf and music education, will join the faculty as the First Grade Teacher. Sophia Paffenroth will serve as a teaching intern in the First Grade as she begins her Waldorf Teacher Education program with Hawthorne Valley Alkion Center for Adult Education.
Thomas Brown will take up the role of Math & Science Teacher for our high school. Mr. Brown has extensive experience teaching, including at the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School, Berkshire Waldorf High School, and Kildonan.
Wayne Ruhl will become HVS’s Games Teacher. He brings a wide range of experience teaching PE to both grade school and college students.
In addition to new faculty and an expanded Early Childhood Program, HVS is launching an After-school Program and Enhanced Music Programming in the coming year. The school’s PTA, in partnership with Mr. Ruhl, will build on pilots from the last two school years and offer an After-School Program that will include a variety of options. The school’s music program will also expand, adding to its already vibrant choral and middle school orchestra program, to include a full high-school orchestra led by music program director Mr. Pernice, a mixed grade 5 instrumental ensemble class led by Mr Pernice and Ms. Loshak, and Strings Instruction for grades 3 and 4 led by third grade teacher Mr. Esty.
“We are very enthusiastic about our new faculty members and look forward to welcoming them to the school in September,” said Michael Frosch, School Director. “The new programs we are offering this year will enhance the already rich and vibrant education our students experience at Hawthorne Valley.”
