Play Reading: Fire in the Temple

Laurie Portocarrero and Glen Williamson will present two play readings of Fire in the Temple at Lightforms Art Center on Saturday, July 12 at 7pm and Sunday, July 13 at 4pm.

About Fire in the Temple

Rudolf Steiner, one of the most influential spiritual teachers of the 20th century, joins with the archangel Michael to confront mysterious demons in 1923 Europe. Crafted from actual events and discourse, Fire in the Temple dramatizes the last days of Rudolf Steiner’s life, beginning with the destruction by fire of the original Goetheanum building on New Year’s Eve 1922. Proceeding through the almost unfathomable exertions of creativity that followed before Steiner’s death in 1925, the play brings to the stage the people who surrounded him in these final moments, including his wife, Marie Steiner von Sivers, and his physician, Dr. Ita Wegman. Their personal conflicts, hopes, and sorrows are sensitively portrayed in this rigorously researched drama.

The play is by Glen Williamson, directed by John McManus. This staged reading features Laurie Portocarrero and Glen WIlliamson playing multiple roles.
