Fall Festival

Fall Festival 2018 artworkJoin us for the 24th Annual Hawthorne Valley Fall Festival celebration!

Sunday, October 7 ǀ 10 am to 4 pm ǀ Free Admission ǀ Rain or Shine

For 24 years, Hawthorne Valley has offered the Fall Festival as a free public event to thank our donors, customers, volunteers, community members, and local vendors for their support and partnership. The Festival is the perfect opportunity to get to know Hawthorne Valley’s diverse initiatives and experience the beauty of autumn in Columbia County. Over the years, the Festival has grown into a seasonal favorite with over 3,000 people attending from the Hudson Valley, New York City, and beyond.

Special Event with Woody Tasch, Founder, Slow Money:

Woody Tasch

Time: 2pm
Location: Underneath the Gazebo outside the Farm Store
Join Woody for, “Local Food and Poetry: A Slow Money Discussion”

For the past decade, author Woody Tasch has been, through the slow money movement, promoting a new economic story—a story about bringing money back down to earth. His new book, SOIL: Notes Towards the Theory and Practice of Nurture Capital has been called “a Walden for the 21st century.”  In this talk, Tasch will share passages from “Poetically Incorrect,” Part One of his new book, as well as passages from Nikos’ Kazantzakis’ Odyssey: A Modern Sequel and Tom Robbins’ Jitterbug Perfume, which inspired him. The talk will explore the role of myth in modern culture. This is an unusual opportunity to think poetically about the practical challenges and opportunities of the local food system. Thoreauvian fiduciary activism, anyone?

Hope on the Hudson posterDuring his visit to the Hudson Valley, Woody Tasch will also be speaking at Basilica Hudson’s ‘Hope on the Hudson’ event the following evening, Monday, October 8th.
