The Valley Table’s Spring edition notes Hawthorne Valley Farm was ranked fifth on The Cornucopia Institute’s (a national nonprofit family farming advocacy group) list of more than 150 of the best organic dairies in the country. Our farm received a ‘five cow’ rating – a perfect score of 1200. According the The Cornucopia Institute’s summary of the farms with five-cow ratings, “These ‘outstanding’ farmstead dairies are the top-rated dairy brands in our study. The top seven farms in this category had perfect scores of 1200. Their intimate relationship with their cows and complete control over their milk and other dairy ingredients, not to mention that 100% of profits go back to the farm family, are what distinguish this group.” Hawthorne Valley Farm is one of only 3 farms in New York State, and 33 farms in the country to receive the Institute’s 5-cow rating. The Valley Table notes that the list, “intended to help consumers find the best milk from small-scale organic farms and to identify farms that promote ethical treatment of animals, is based on how well the dairies meet key organic management practices and criteria.” Read the full article here.
