In May, the Teachers College Alumni Council honored Tom James, Hawthorne Valley Board of Trustees President, with a proclamation of gratitude for his work as Provost, Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the college. Tom is stepping down as Provost after 12 years. He will take a sabbatical year to finish a book and then return to the college as a professor.
In his role at Teachers College, Tom has overseen the strengthening of academic departments and the cultivation of a diverse faculty. Faculty, staff, and students praised him for his model of civility and mutual respect and contributions to both the field of education history and the intellectual and community life of the college.
TC President Thomas Bailey said, ““Tom James has rendered outstanding service to Teachers College over the past 12 years. Among his many achievements that have fostered more innovation and collaboration at the College, he has also served as a model of graciousness, decency and mutual respect.”
