The thawing we’ve had over the last few days (bu The thawing we’ve had over the last few days (but not this morning!) has highlighted the deer trails in the woods; the trampled trails have been quicker to melt, leaving outlines through the remaining snow. For how many generations have the deer followed these contours? Have they threaded nutrient ‘yarns’ through the forest? On a farm, one regularly thinks about manure and how best to distribute it across fields. In the forests, these deer paths are dotted with piles of droppings – are they leaving bands of nutrient enrichment through the forest and what do the wild plants think of that? #farmscapeecology
Over the course of the last year, and specifically Over the course of the last year, and specifically over the last few weekends, our store employees have experienced continued harassment, threats, and abuse regarding our mask policy. One such disturbing incident was captured on video this weekend. We have, and will continue to have, zero tolerance for any malicious behavior towards our staff. Appropriate actions will be taken against instigators. We would like to make clear, again, that every person entering our establishment is required to wear a proper face covering.

Since last March, our staff has worked tirelessly and in often uncertain and challenging times to continue to stay open. We ask that you please show kindness and compassion towards one another as we navigate this together.

The Farm Store offers free curbside service for those unable to shop in our store and will continue to follow County and State Guidance. Our staff and customer’s health and safety is our top priority.

Winter on the farm has us busy preparing for the u Winter on the farm has us busy preparing for the upcoming growing season. Our team is geeking out over some new tools (fresh snips!) and playing with Excel to finalize the greenhouse seeding schedule. We have been referencing the 2021 Stella Natura Biodynamic Planting Calendar as we plan our seeding schedule according to our crop plans and the first transplants of 2021 have already started to pop in the prop house 🌱

From @cowednesday: Meet sisters Ireland (photo 1, From @cowednesday: Meet sisters Ireland (photo 1, working it for the camera!) and Ingrid (photo 2, much less enthused), both of whom were born to Isabelle (photo 3), one of our oldest dairy cows in the herd.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ingrid lets farmers know what kind of mood she’s in every morning with her legs (she’s quite a kicker!), and like her mom Isabelle, she’s a pretty no-nonsense cow. Ingrid, also like Isabelle, loves to lie down in her spot before being milked.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ireland sadly lost her first calf after a very difficult birth and was herself in delicate condition for weeks afterward. We are extremely humbled by Ireland’s perseverance and ability to remain so sweet despite a rocky first birth. Unlike her sister, Ireland is much more affectionate and likes to be touched 🐮 #cowednesday
Winter Stoneflies are currently emerging from our Winter Stoneflies are currently emerging from our streams (where—if the water is clean enough—they spend their youth as aquatic insects) to wander across the snow to look for mates. Who would have guessed that this is a viable way of life for an insect? (This Stonefly is about ½ inch long) #farmscapeecology

Due to the ongoing pandemic, our Place Based Learning Center has made the difficult decision to not offer sleep away camp this summer season. Instead, our focus remains on working safely within the local community and brainstorming for future seasons. Thank you to all who make our camp programming special, we hope to see you all again in future years 🤍
